Post Discogram Instructions



FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS AFTER YOUR DISCOGRAM:

  1. Resume a regular diet. Drink plenty of fluids.
  2. Rest today and resume daily activities tomorrow. Do not engage in strenuous work, exercise, physical therapy or lifting for 48 hours.
  3. No driving the day of the procedure.
  4. Resume your regular medications prescribed by your physician(s). If you take a blood thinner you may resume taking it 12 hours after the procedure.
  5. Remove your bandage(s) in 24 hours.

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS:

  1. Increased pain: You can expect to have some discomfort for several days after your injection. An ice pack to the injection site is helpful for the first 12 hours, then gentle heat afterwards. Take your usual pain medication prescribed by your physician.

CONTACT OUR OFFICE AT 615-356-3999 FOR THE FOLLOWING SYMPTOMS:

  1. Fever greater than 100.5°
  2. Swelling, redness, or unusual drainage from the puncture site.
  3. Increasing severe pain, inability to walk, profound weakness, or loss of bladder or bowel control.

If you have an emergency dial 911 or go to the nearest Emergency Room.
