FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS AFTER AN EPIDURAL STEROID INJECTION:
If your doctor has ordered a series of injections, then stop by the Front Desk to schedule your next injection.They will schedule your next injection in 2-3 weeks.
Resume a regular diet. Drink plenty of fluids.
Rest today and resume daily activities tomorrow. Do not engage in strenuous work, exercise, physical therapy or lifting for 48 hours.
No driving the day of the procedure.
Resume your regular medications prescribed by your physician(s). If you take a blood thinner you may resume taking it 12 hours after the procedure.
Remove your bandage in 24 hours.
COMMON SIDE EFFECTS:
Increased pain: You can expect to have some discomfort for several days after your injection. An ice pack tothe injection site is helpful for the first 12 hours, then gentle heat afterwards. Take your usual pain medication prescribed by your physician.
Elevated blood pressure: Steroids may cause an increase in blood sugar in patients with pre-existing diabetes. Ifthere is a rise in your blood sugar that is not controlled by your normal medications, call your primary care physician.

Fever greater than 100.5°
Swelling, redness, or unusual drainage from the puncture site.
Increasing severe pain, inability to walk, profound weakness, or loss of bladder or bowel control.
If you have an emergency dial 911 or go to the nearest Emergency Room.
