The goal of this screening exam is to determine if Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) is present and to what extent, even, without symptoms. This exam should be performed on patients with risk factors of CAD such as:
• high blood cholesterol level
• family history of heart attack
• high blood pressure
• cigarette smoking
• overweight or obese physical inactivity
The primary limitation of this screening is, without contrast administered, a cardiac calcium score cannot determine the presence or absence of soft plaque.
